This work continues the exploration of the “Kami” (gods) slumbering within Japan’s histrical/geological strata, following our work “Sojin-tan, Part One: The Kamioka Chapter (2024).” In Japan, from the modern era to the early modern and medieval periods , and even before the term “Kami” was coined, countless gods were created by people who feared or revered powers beyond human understanding. Layers of diverse gods have accumulated across the ages, and behind the gods who appear before us lie the gods who are hidden and erased.
At the heart of this work lies a fictional ritual site—a place for “kami-asobi” (divine play), where deities are invited and delighted.
We wish to mimic this “kami-asobi.”
In a room of a certain building, mechanical beings dance / They mimic humans, deities, heaven and earth / In a small mountain village, in the shadow of a shrine, behind a “Ushiro-do” (back door) / Since ancient times, it has been repeated / They continue to mimic, laughing, playing
